Bridgeport Bridge
Monday, April 16th, 2012

There are many historic points of interest throughout Nevada County and the Bridgeport covered bridge is one of the most remarkable.
Built in 1862 by David Wood, this beautiful engineering marvel is 229 feet long, making it the longest single-span wooden covered bridge in existence!
The bridge and barn are 150 years old this spring and its Sesquicentennial Birthday celebration will take place April 27-29. To add to the festivities, Mother Nature willing, the annual display of wildflowers will make the party a sight to behold.
The Buttermilk Bend trail is an easy 2 mile hike with the added bonus of spectacular views of our beloved South Yuba River. Take a Docent guided wild flower walk – they start at 11am and last about 2 hours and are available every weekend starting now through May 13.

Welcome!
Saturday, February 4th, 2012
Welcome to our new blog and our new and improved website!
“Looks the same” you say. Great – it’s supposed to thanks to the hard work of Lance Brown who has been diligently translating the beautiful design created by Terrilyn Chance, into a WordPress format. It will make it easier for us to keep the site fresh and updated. Look for more improvements and blog posts in the near future.
We love where we live! And while it’s been said it before, it bears repeating – there is so much to see and do here in Nevada County that half the time even the locals are amazed by what they didn’t know. Our mission here at Nevada County Escapes is to explore and share the hidden treasures of our county and while admittedly biased, to let you know about people, places and events that we think are especially notable.
Your feedback is important! While we pride ourselves in knowing a great deal about our community, it would be impossible to know everything – so help us by sharing. If you hear of a great spot to bring your dog, ride your bike or a new awesome restaurant, please let us know. And if there is something you tried and didn’t like, we want to hear that too.
Tourism is vital to the economy of our county . Our wineries, hotels, B&B’s, restaurants, artists, musicians, healing practitioners, and shop owners all depend on the support of visitors. We want to give tourists (and locals) the information they need to have the best Nevada County Escape possible.
By the way – this beautiful photo was taken by Nevada County photographer and artist, Douglas Orton, in the Bowman Lakes area.
Thanks!

Who else likes personalized getaways?
Tuesday, October 12th, 2010
Have you ever been to Nevada City or Grass Valley in Northern California? With the Tahoe National Forest in my back yard, I get a lot of out-of-town friends wanting to explore the great outdoors and experience a day-in-the-life of a Sierra Nevada Foothills resident. On one hike with Tao, my dog, I realized that I was in a unique position to offer a valuable service for folks who seek the hidden treasures here – personalized packages.
With a love of where I live and knowledge of our best-kept secrets, I founded Nevada County Escapes as a concierge travel service. Want to know where the locals eat, where the off-the-beaten paths are, where to go for spiritual healing or a great massage, the best spots at the river, or where to go with Fido? I create, plan and deliver tailored packages to meet individual needs, budgets, and the desire for a memorable experience that goes beyond the ordinary.
Nevada County, that includes Nevada City, Grass Valley and Truckee, is so much more than the Gold Rush and the renowned four-season recreational opportunities. It is nature with nurturing, a Mecca for artists, writers, musicians and healing practitioners. The diverse natural beauty, pristine lakes, crystal blue skies, and dramatic Yuba River captivate, inspire and stir the senses.
Couples can re-connect at a romantic retreat, girlfriends can indulge in a spa day, families can have a great time, and single travelers with their BFF (Best Furry Friend) can camp, hike and bike. Amid the galleries, performing arts, spiritual centers, historic venues, and award-winning wineries, there is harmony, balance and stillness to relax and rejuvenate your mind, body and soul.
If you’ve never been here, Nevada County Escapes is your ticket to an extraordinary getaway. Escape to a place where rest and relaxation merge with adventure and fun. Let’s get personal.
